TheDestinationWindowislocatedinthetopleftcornerofthemovingmapscreenandshowsthe
nameofthecurrentdestination.
4.2.1.2 DistanceWindow

TheDistanceWindowislocatedinthetoprowofthemovingmapscreen,betweentheDestination
andFinalGlidewindows.Italwaysdisplaysthedistancetothedestinationandcanoptionallydisplay
theboththedistanceandbearingtothedestination.

TheFinalGlideWindowislocatedinthetoprightcornerofthemovingmapdisplay.Thelabel“Alt.
Diff.”(AltitudeDifferential)indicatesthatthenumberdisplayedisthedifferencebetweenthealtitude
requiredtomakeittothedestination(takingintoaccountwind,airspeed,gliderpolar,MacCready
setting,etc.)andyourcurrentaltitude.Whenyouareaboveglideslopethenumberwillbegreater
thanzeroandtheboxwillbecoloredgreen.Whenyouarebelowglideslopethenumberwillbeless
thanzeroandtheboxwillbegreyincolor.

ChangestotheMacCreadysettingwillleadtochangesinthefinalglidealtitudedifferentialnumber.
IncreasingtheMacCreadynumberwillindicatethatyoushouldbeflyingfasterandhavehighersink
ratesandthereforerequiremorealtitudetomakeittothedestination.
Generally,newcrosscountrypilotstendtobumptheMacCreadyvaluedowntozerowhentryingto
decidewhethertheycanmakeithome.Theirreasoningisthatiftheyflymoreslowlytheymaybe
abletomakeithome.Atfirstthoughtthisseemslikeaconservativeapproachbecausetheyare
